My “junior” sorority recruitment story……
This past fall I went through recruitment as a junior!  I didn’t go through sooner because of nerves and the negative thoughts that were planted in my head from my older sister and mom.  This year was my year though. I knew who I was as a person and felt confident with myself to go through and have a good experience.
Going into recruitment I had my two best friends on the other side in Delta Zeta (one went through our freshman year, and the other went through our sophomore year), but that didn’t stop me from having an open mind about the other chapters as I went through the whole process. During my first round in DZ, I ended up meeting my future big, which was what made the decision to put them down as my number one choice so easy. The second round I ended up talking to the beautiful lady who adopted me after my original big dropped out.  And then for pref round, I talked to the current president, someone who has so much love for the chapter, I knew that DZ was my home.
The night before bid day, I had such crazy nerves that I couldn’t sleep.  I was so worried that I was going to get a call that I didn’t receive a bid, that I only got about 2 hours of sleep.  The next morning, after not getting a call, my roommate and I silently drove to the student center, where the bids were being handed out.  When I got my bid, I opened it and starting crying as soon as I saw the name Delta Zeta written in script under the crest.  My SRC (rho gamma/rho chi/gamma chi) smiled and hugged me asking if i accepted the bid, which obviously I did! (Later, I found out she was a DZ as well!).
When it finally came time to let the chapters know which sorority the PNMs chose, I was elated.  All the chapters came into the ballroom chanting and cheering, while all the new members watched from the balcony.  My eyes darted as I tried to find my two friends in DZ and it wasn’t until a few minutes later that my best friend made eye contact with me.  There were so many girls, but in that moment, it was just me and her.  As soon as she saw me pointing to her, she collapsed into tears.  When i finally got to run home to her and the rest of the beautiful ladies in my chapter, everything felt right. I am now happily an initiated member of Delta Zeta, maybe a few years late, but I will cherish the time I have within my chapter!
