if you can get your GPA at or above 2.5 this last semester of HS, you should qualify for recruitment! how difficult it will be to get a bid, totally depends on the college you will be attending. each panhellenic (and each chapter) has different levels of “enforcement” of the GPA minimum. a highly competitive greek system will raise the GPA to 3.0 or more and be very strict about respecting it. at smaller schools, they are more flexible and may take your health issues into consideration.
if you have an ongoing health problem, the chapters will also be concerned that you can maintain a good GPA while in college. if you share your health history, you will also need to assure the sororities that you are now 100% able to physically handle the rigors of sorority membership, activities and academics.
IF it doesn’t look like rushing as a freshman is possible ~ do not despair! spend your first year earning the highest grades possible, get to know the sororities on campus and join some other clubs or sports. this can be a huge benefit! you will have the time to size up the chapters, meet some greeks and be in top notch standing when you do rush as a sophomore. this could end up being a really great option for you….. xoxo ;)
